About
INFOSA (Compañía Española de Investigación y Fomento Minero, S.A.)
With an average annual production of 95,000 tonnes of salt, Infosa is a modern salt company dedicated to the production and commercialization of sea salt across various consumer markets. This continues a tradition of salt production in the Ebro Delta dating back to the 14th century. Several centuries later, in 1869, salt production began at the Salinas de la Trinidad.
The Salinas de la Trinidad are located at Punta de la Banya on the peninsula of Els Alfacs, in the western extremity of the Ebro Delta. This 970-hectare area creates an ecological habitat of evaporation lagoons and wetlands with varying salinity, supporting unique and rare flora and fauna. Notably, it hosted 85% of the world’s Audouin’s gull population when it was near extinction and is home to Catalonia’s only breeding colony of flamingos. The site also supports dense populations of ducks, slender-billed gulls, black-legged kittiwakes, and one of Spain’s largest shorebird populations. It is a critical habitat for the endangered “fartet” fish, making it a vital part of Spain’s wetland heritage conservation.
